Chapter 3
3.1
My child, flee from every evil and from everything resembling it.
3.2
Do not be prone to anger, for anger leads to murder; do not be jealous, quarrelsome or hot-tempered, for murders arise from all these things.
3.3
My child, do not be lustful, for lust leads to sexual immorality; do not use obscene language or look at others haughtily, for acts of adultery arise from all these things.
3.4
My child, do not be an interpreter of omens, for this leads to idolatry; do not be an enchanter, an astrologer or a practitioner of magical purifications. Do not even wish to see such things, for idolatry arises from all of them.
3.5
My child, do not be a liar, for lying leads to theft; do not be avaricious or vain, for thefts arise from all these things.
3.6
My child, do not be a grumbler, for grumbling leads to blasphemy; do not be self-willed or evil-minded, for blasphemies arise from all these things.
3.7
Be gentle, for the gentle will inherit the earth.
3.8
Be patient, merciful, without malice, quiet and good, and always hold in reverence the words you have heard.
3.9
Do not exalt yourself or allow your soul to grow presumptuous. Do not let your soul associate with the exalted; instead, live among the righteous and humble.
3.10
Whatever happens to you, accept it as good, knowing that nothing happens apart from God.
