Chapter 4
4.1
My child, remember night and day the one who speaks the word of God to you, and honour that person as the Lord; for wherever the Lord’s authority is proclaimed, there the Lord is.
4.2
Seek out the company of the holy ones every day, so that you may find support in their words.
4.3
Do not cause a division, but reconcile those who are quarrelling. Judge justly; show no partiality when correcting transgressions.
4.4
Do not be in two minds about whether it will happen or not.
4.5
Do not stretch out your hands to receive and draw them back when it is time to give.
4.6
If you have anything, give it with your own hands as a ransom for your sins.
4.7
Do not hesitate to give, and do not grumble when giving, for you will know who rewards generously.
4.8
Do not turn away from anyone in need, but share everything with your brother and do not say that anything is your own; for if you share in what is immortal, how much more should you share in mortal things?
4.9
Do not withdraw your hand from your son or daughter; from their youth, teach them the fear of God.
4.10
Do not, in your bitterness, give orders to your male slave or female slave, who hope in the same God, lest they cease to fear the God who is over you both. For he does not come to call according to outward status, but calls those whom the Spirit has prepared.
4.11
You slaves, in turn, are to submit to your masters as to an image of God, with shame and fear.
4.12
Hate all hypocrisy and everything that is not pleasing to the Lord.
4.13
Never abandon the commandments of the Lord, but keep what you have received, neither adding nor taking away.
4.14
In the assembly, confess your transgressions, and do not come to your prayer with an evil conscience. This is the way of life.
